Branding Guidelines

Our brand reflects who we are: professional, welcoming, and united. These guidelines ensure consistency while allowing creative flexibility to suit different media, audiences, and contexts.

The building blocks for our brand are contained on this page. While the guidelines are here to get you started, all uses of our brand must be approved by VATSIM UK.

Using Our Logo

Always use the official VATSIM UK logos provided as your starting point. We've included a few examples anyway of what you shouldn't do.

Do not change the colours of our logo

Do not rotate or flip our logo

Do not stretch the width/height of our logo

Do not use old variations of our logo

Do not use our logo on a background which can make any element hard to see

Do not crop any part of our logo, apart from using the radar blips in conjunction with an uncropped logo

Event Banners

What To Include

Event title/logo

  • The title should be prominent, clear and readable at a glance.
  • The VATSIM UK logo must be clearly displayed, with a minimum width of 90px.

Event information

  • Event dates must be in the day, month format. If the space permits, the name of the day the event falls on may also be included.
  • Event airport must include the ICAO code.
  • Times must be in a 24 hour, Zulu format.

Layout guidance

  • Use a modular approach, title, imagery, and details can be arranged to suit the medium.
  • Maintain balance between imagery and text; avoid overcrowding.

Example Banners

Example of a good banner

  • Uses the VATSIM UK branding colours throughout.
  • VATSIM UK logo has been used correctly (clear, correct colours, dimensions haven't been changed...).
  • Event text is clear and unambiguous, event times are in 24hr format and in zulu.
  • The airport's ICAO has been used.

Example of a poor banner

  • Background image is poor and does not compliment text.
  • Several fonts and sizes have been used.
  • VATSIM UK logo is not in an acceptable form, there is hardly any margin spacing.
  • Times are ambiguous, is this event running in the morning or afternoon and is it in Zulu time?

Digital Approach

Social Media: Bold, eye-catching designs are encouraged, but always maintain brand colours and legibility.

Accessibility

Avoid text over busy imagery unless a high-opacity overlay is used. Use alt text for digital images where possible.

Submissions

Event banners should always be provided in both PNG and PSD format.

The use of AI

Whilst AI can be a powerful tool in digital content creation, we encourage members creating banners and content for VATSIM UK to take a measured approach. We strongly discourage entirely creating banners with AI, as it can lead to inconsistencies with design, style and quality. AI elements should only be used to support human work, or enhance it, not replace it. Should you have any questions about the use of AI, or if you’re unsure of whether something matches the standard expected of VATSIM UK content, please contact a member of the community team.

Approval Process

If you’d like to use a variant of the VATSIM UK logo or banner which has been altered beyond the permitted adaptations, please submit the modified logo or banner to [email protected] for approval. You may also submit logos for a new recurring format (e.g, series banners)
